لە  ٢٢مانگی تشرینی یەکەمی ٢٠٢٠، گوهدار زێباری ڕۆژنامەوانی سەربەخۆ لە ماڵەکەی خۆیدا دەستگیرکرا و دواتر لە مانگی شوباتی ٢٠٢١، بە تۆمەتی هەڕەشە لەسەر ئاسایشی نەتەوەیی بە شەش ساڵ زیندان سزادرا کە دواتر ئەم سزایە لە ٢٣ شوباتی ٢٠٢٢، بۆ دوو ساڵ و چوار مانگ کەمکرایەوە. گوهدار لەبەر ڕەخنەگرتن لە گەندەڵی و توندوتیژی حکومەت زیندانیکرا.

لە ٢٩ ئابی ٢٠٢٢، گوهدار زێباری بە تۆمەتی ناردنی زانیاری ناو زیندان بۆ میدیاکان لە دەرەوەی زیندانی چاکسازی گەوران سزادەدرێت و لەسەر جەم زیندانیانی بادینان جیادەکرێتەوە و ڕەوانەی بەشێکی دیکە لە هەمان زیندان دەکرێت.

ئاسایشی زیندان وەک پاساوێک بۆ دوورخستنەوەی گوهدار لەو زیندانیانەی کە لە گەڵیان زیندانی کرابوو چەندین تۆمەتی جیاوازیان بەرانبەر بە کارهێناوە و هەر جار بە تۆمەتێکی نوێ ماوەی سزاکەیان بۆ درێژ کردوەتەوە.

تیمەکانی بنیاتنەری ئاشتی کۆمەڵگا داوای ئازادکردنی گوهدار زێباری و سەرجەم زیندانیانی بادینان دەکات.  

On October 22, 2020, the independent journalist Guhdar Zebari was arrested from his home and sentenced to 6 years in prison on false charges of threatening national security in February 2021. Zebari’s sentencing was reduced from 6 years to 2 years and 4 months on February 23, 2022. Zebari has been imprisoned for his courage to criticize government corruption and violence publicly.

Since August 29, Guhdar Zebari has been sent to an alternative cell within Erbil Adult Prison; he is now separated from the other Badinan prisoners on accusations that he has been sending information to the media. Prison security has changed their accusations multiple times to justify their efforts to separate Zebari from the community of Badinan activists with whom he has been imprisoned.

CPT Iraqi Kurdistan demands the release of Guhdar Zebari and all of the Badinan prisoners.
